Who is DD's
DD’s is a farm fresh juice company created to serve healthy, sustainable food in fun and innovative ways. With degrees in sustainability and science we joined together with a passion for supporting local farms and creating community through healthy eating. We have always felt that we live in one of the cleanest and most abundant areas of the country but it is oddly hard to find the type of healthy food that people want to be consuming daily. We knew that we had to create DD’s.
What changes have you seen in the food industry over the years?
One of the best parts of traveling is food. To eat is to participate in a cultures traditions. We noticed that almost everywhere we went we were ordering incredibly fresh juice made from local ingredients. We also found it was hard for them to find something like that where we lived. So we decided to bring that one simple, beautiful ethos to Seattle: Get to know your farmers and your food will be better.
Why is sourcing from local farms and farmers markets so important to DD's
It is such a blessing to truly know your farmer. Cutting out steps in the food supply system is one of our goals and the BFM is a huge part of that. About 70-80 percent of our ingredients are sourced at the markets we sell at. Sourcing hyper-local gives our juice that special something that bigger companies just can’t offer: fresh cut, farm to bottle flavor. We show our love for our local farms and community in every juice we make.
What impact has the relationships you have developed with local farmers had on your success?
Every Sunday is a culinary adventure that can bring new friends, a new recipe idea or just the right ingredient for an old favorite. No matter how your week is going you know Market day is going to be a good one. The support of the Ballard Farmers Market community is truly unmatched and we feel fortunate to have been welcomed in with such open arms. Just this year Bryan went through a pretty major surgery and DD’s didn’t skip a beat! The market staff was there to help us set up and that kind of kindness is just contagious.
Who do you source from at the Ballard Farmers Market?
I (Emily) spent years working closely with Matt at Foothills Farm. I got a wonderful glimpse into the farmers market community. Once we started DD’s I knew Ballard was the ideal place to start. From there we just kept meeting more amazing farmers and now whether it’s apples from Collins Family Orchard, Kale from River Run or beets from Foothills; you can bet our juice is the freshest, most local product out there.
What are some highlights of what DD's Juice sells at the Farmers Markets?
Our year round menu has juice and smoothies that are always fresh and follow the seasonal harvests. Winter is no different! In these colder months we are proud to serve our hot bone broth! Made from the juice cuttings from our farm fresh vegetables and a rotating selection of beef and chicken from Ballard Farmers Market vendors, it’s like a warm hug on a frosty day. Also look for our wellness shots! They’re not like the ones you’ll find in a grocery store. Ours have no sugary fillers like pineapple or OJ. They are a citric packed high five to your immune system designed to get your metabolism going and fend off colds. Pour them over some hot water with some local honey and you’ve got a soothing hot tonic.
You can find us every Sunday in Ballard and at our very first brick and mortar location in the 400 Fairview Market Hall in South Lake Union come Spring 2025!
